Commercial waste: FAQs

There are five main stages to how commercial waste collection works:

1. Get a free quote online, based on your location, type of waste, amount and size of bins required, and how often you need collection.
2. Agree and pay for collection to confirm.
3. Tell us your site access details – this ensures our drivers can quickly and easily collect your waste.
4. Fill your bins when they arrive within the weight limits and leave in the agreed collection point ahead of the collection time.
5. Relax as we collect, transport, and recycle your waste where possible – and plant a tree for you!

Learn how commercial waste collection works

The price to get your commercial waste collected depends on:

• Your business’ location
• The type of waste you need removing
• How many bins you need
• Sizes of the bins you require
• How often you want your commercial waste collecting

The easiest way to work out how much commercial waste collection will cost you is to get a free quote online or over the phone.

When the weight of the waste in your bin is more than its weight allowance, you may have to pay an overweight charge. The weight allowance for each bin varies depending on its size and the type of waste it holds. Always check this first before you fill a bin with your commercial waste.

Waste disposal across all industries is charged on weight rather than volume, which is why these charges are in place. Once your waste is collected the bin is weighed, then after disposal the empty bin is weighed again and deducted off the first weight.

If you face regular overweight charges, it can be best to increase the size or number of bins you use, or frequency of collection. Use our wheelie bin chart to check the general weight limits or explore waste types to find specific weight allowances.

Your bins need to be left in an easily accessible place for our vehicles. In most cases this will be the same place where your bins are first dropped off. When arranging a quote, we’ll ask for details to assess whether the location is accessible. This takes into account:

• If the bins are accessible by a vehicle five metres wide
• How close to a public/access road it is
• Any steep gradients, steps, loose, or dangerous surfaces
• What time the bin(s) can be delivered and collected
• If we need a key or access code
• Whether ‘out of hours’ calls will upset any neighbours

Agreeing on an accessible collection point is essential to ensure delivery and collection runs smoothly for you and our drivers.

Sadly, not all commercial waste is recyclable. Where possible we’ll recycle your business waste but types such as general waste are unavoidable and still end up in landfill. However, glass, cardboard, and dry mixed recycling are all recycled where possible.

Understand more about the different types of waste

Yes, simply speak to someone from our customer care team to add more bins to your collection:

You can add another bin for the same or a different waste type, increase the size of the bins you need to fill, or change the frequency of collection. It’s also possible to remove a bin from your collection if you no longer produce a certain kind of waste.

We’ll agree a time and place to collect your commercial waste bins from the start. To ensure this is at a convenient time for you, tell us when is most suitable – including if there are any access restrictions to your site or if ‘out of hours’ collections are possible.

You can arrange collection of your commercial waste – whatever type and however many bins and sizes you use – on a daily, weekly, or fortnightly basis. Our team can talk you through the options and help you find the best collection schedule based on the amount and type of waste you produce.

Yes, every business in the UK that produces any type of waste are legally required to have a duty of care certificate (or waste transfer note). This is to show that the business or owner has disposed of such waste in a legal and responsible manner. It ensures your company gets rid of waste in line with the Environmental Protection Act 1990.

Every waste collector is legally and duty-bound to provide each business with a duty of care certificate when removing their waste. That’s why we provide your duty of care certificate for free.

You can arrange delivery and collection of three different commercial waste bin sizes:

• 240 litres
• 660 litres
• 1,100 litres
